This weekend our very own MHMHS Student, Liam Dufrene, competed in the 6th Annual Incubate Debate National Championship. Over the 3 days of competition Liam was awarded with The Hemingway Award and Best Speaker Award. The Hemingway Award is given to students who demonstrate significant improvement in their debate skills throughout the program. The Best Speaker award was given after a 30 minute "Conversations" round to students who showed intellect, respect, class, wisdom, and gave space to all other competitors.
WAY TO GO LIAM!!!
Students debated, discussed, and explored all viewpoints on pressing national issues of:
Is the Trump administration right to oppose birthright citizenship for unauthorized immigrants?
Should the U.S. federal government pursue mass deportations?
Should the U.S. leave NATO?
Should DOGE be disbanded?
Should the U.S. Department of Education be shut down?
Incubate Debate is America’s only no-cost debate league. They serve middle and high school students from 10 states by hosting in-person competitions, workshops, and camps that teach students how to argue well, listen carefully, and seek truth. Their mission is singular: revive open debate in America.

Dear Terrier Families,
We have been made aware of the Tik Tok trend involving students inserting small metal objects (such as paper clips, pushpins, pencil lead, etc.) into charging ports of their Chromebooks. This can result in creating sparks, electrical fires, and/or battery punctures, all of which can cause serious injury and damage.
If a student chooses to participate in this inappropriate behavior, the student may be charged the replacement fee for a new Chromebook. Additionally, the student will face disciplinary action in the form of out of school suspension (OSS).
We are asking for your support in speaking with your child about the dangers of this behavior, as well as reinforcing the importance of treating school-issued devices with care.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matthew Roy, Principal

Thank you to our AMAZING Faculty & Staff! #TeacherAppreciationWeek 2025

From Ms. Schlueter:
Please give a huge congratulations to these students! They have worked so hard and I'm so proud of all of them.

Dear Terriers,
I just want to state how incredibly proud I am of our students and teachers for their outstanding hard work leading up to this week's State testing.. Their dedication and efforts have been truly exceptional, and I am immensely grateful and impressed.
This week marks the beginning of State testing for most students. Passing the reading test is a crucial graduation requirement in 10th grade and a significant milestone in our journey to becoming an "A" rated school. Our students and teachers have done their part, and now we need parents and guardians to do theirs. Pleas ensure that your student is present and on time for our upcoming testing days. I expect 100% attendance on testing days. - WE CAN DO THIS!
The majority of students in grades 6–10 will take the ELA FAST test on Tuesday, May 6, followed by the Math FAST test for grades 6–8 on Wednesday, May 7. While most students will test on these scheduled days, some will complete their assessments on alternate dates.
Thank you for all your continued support and cooperation. Together, we are building that Terrier Pride.
Dr. Roy
Principal

Dear Terrier Families,
Hello, this Dr. Roy calling with some important and exciting information for parents of students attending Prom on Saturday, April 12th.
We are thrilled for this special evening and can’t wait to celebrate with our students—it’s going to be a night to remember!
Please take note of the following expectations:
Students must arrive at the school by 4:45 PM.
Students attending the prom must use the school-provided transportation. Students will not be permitted to attend the prom unless they have arrived on the school-provided transportation. Students must also come home on the bus and will not be permitted to leave the prom venue other than on the school-school provided transportation.
The bus will depart promptly at 5:15 PM, and unfortunately, we won’t be able to wait for late arrivals.
For safety reasons, blankets and bags are not allowed on the bus. However, female students may bring a small bag for personal items.
As always, students are expected to follow the Glades County School District Code of Conduct while on campus, during transportation, and at the prom venue in Miami.
Please be aware that all students are subject to search by a school administrator, and canines may be present both at school before departure and at the prom venue.
We appreciate your support in helping us ensure a safe, fun, and unforgettable prom night for everyone. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the school.
Thank you!
Dr. Roy
